Should I really join the Air Force?
SeeSe Ya I can tell that you have put a great deal of thought into your situation. You express what are normal feelings for what is a very important crossroad in your life. If anything I personally am very proud of you because you show that you do not take this decision lightly and this shows a maturity far beyond your age. Service for your country is one of the most noble undertakings that one can do. If you look at all of the historically great figures in America a number of them had some sort of experience in the military. You must re-ask yourself what are some of the advantages of my joining the Air Force? One answer is that you will be trained and given a level of responsibility that is unheard of in the civilian world. There are very few young civilian men and women who are given the job of operating million dollar pieces of equipment. You will also be given the opportunity to continue your education at a college or university. You may not be interested in doing this now but you will always have that option available to you through the Air Force. You also talked about being a mentor to your sister. I think she will see you with even greater respect if you carry out your commitment. All parents love their children and do not want to see them in harm's way, but they too will in their hearts find a deep admiration for your courage and commitment. On the other hand they would probably not hold it against you if you choose not to join. Only you can look deep into your heart and ask yourself years from now;"What if"?
